10 All Vegan Asian Restaurants in Manhattan

I love Asian food, and I love when I can find 100% vegan restaurants to support, so this list combines my two favorite things. Here’s the top ten all-vegan Asian spots in NYC right now:
Vegan Ramen with a ridiculously umami broth (sunflower seed based) and a vegan hard-boiled egg is taking up residency at Chef’s Club Counter until the end of March 2019. Ramenhood’s original location is in LA, but for now, NYC has been blessed with an all-vegan ramen shop that really knows how to make a good broth.
Dim sum is everyone’s favorite weekend activity and Bodhi lets you win some, and dim sum! Bodhi serves up all the classic dishes like char shiu bao, rice rolls, and even soup dumplings. They also serve sushi and family-style Chinese plates, so you can get both your dim sum and dinner fix.
I know this is list is all about good Asian vegan spots in Manhattan, but LuAnne’s WIld Ginger also has locations in Brooklyn, so it’s a win-win for everyone! They specialize in Asian fusion dishes including Western favorites like General Tso “chicken” and fried rice, while still capturing the unique flavors of Asian cuisine. This is a great place to have a casual meal with friends that still tastes familiar to those who didn’t grow up with Asian food.
Hangawi is an upscale Korean eatery that serves up vegan dishes that are healthy and balanced. The space is beautiful and relaxing with a lot of inspiration from the design of traditional Korean homes. Yoour shoes come off at the door, leaving you to be taken away from the city to enjoy tea, fermented dishes, and an amazing Avocado Hot Stone Bibimbap while still being in the heart of Koreatown.
Franchia is the sister restaurant of Hangawi, and it’s the more casual Asian eatery on Park Avenue. Franchia has more dishes from various regions of Asia, and they can satisfy any craving. They have an extensive menu that incorporates Vietnamese, Thai, Chinese, Malaysian, and many other vegan versions of popular dishes from around Asia. It’s a lot more of a casual space than Hangawi, but still good for a night out with friends.
7. Beyond Sushi
Shark Tank funded sushi chain proves that fish is not needed for sushi to be delicious. Beyond Sushi really plays with the beauty and complex flavors of vegetables in all their rolls. I love the Spicy Mang and Mighty Mushroom rolls, but all their dishes are Asian influenced, so you can’t go wrong with the dumplings or noodles either!
Kajitsu is a high-end Japanese restaurant that specializes in Shojin cuisine. This refers to a type of vegetarian cooking that originates in Zen Buddhism. The menu changes every month, focuses on seasonal vegetables, and carries a Michelin Star. The food and dining experience is incredibly unique, and I love eating here for special occasions.
9. May Kaidee
May Kaidee is beloved by many of my vegan friends in New York. This. vegan Thai restaurant comes straight from a vegan cooking school in Thailand. May Kaidee’s food is affordable, incorporates regional dishes, and takes you on a flavor ride. Everyday of the week is a different set menu for $25, so you have to keep going back to try them all!
Okay, this doesn’t technically count as a restaurant, but May Wah is an all vegetarian grocery store that has made its fame for the amazing mock meats they bring all the way from Taiwan. A lot of the vegan chicken drumsticks you eat at other restaurants probably uses May Wah products. This is just me and my mom’s favorite spot in Chinatown to gather a lot of ingredients (think: fish balls, mock crab meat, dumplings), sample foods, and gush over my childhood favorites.
